  • This lesson reviews common concerns and ideal skills law firms look for in their paralegals. With the emphasis on writing skills - it’s important to show great work AND value to both your firm and clients.

Components of Business Letters

  • This lesson reviews the basic parts of a business letter and how to write them properly using an Answer document as the reference. Reviews Sender’s Address, Date, Recipient Address, and Identification of Matter.
  • This lesson reviews the basic parts of a business letter and how to write them properly (Salutation, Body of Letter, Closing & Signature, and Enclosures & Other Info).

Preparing Letters to Clerks

  • There will be times when your supervisor will provide you with basic information and expect you to draft a business letter to the Clerk of Superior Court. This lesson goes over the expectations - and how to properly prepare one.

Drafting a Notice to Take Deposition

  • An overview of what a Notice to Take Deposition is and how to properly prepare one using the document examples shown previously.
  • An emphasis on the importance of proofreading and staying on top of your state’s Rules of Civil Procedure (as changes have been made during pandemic).

With her Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Technology from Pitt Community College and her BS in Business Administration and MBA from ECU, Jean is fully qualified and ready, willing, and able to share her business acumen with students. In addition, Jean worked as a litigation paralegal for 10 years and then moved on to be the legal administrator for the same law firm for 24 years. She knows the ins and outs of a law firm and is excited to share her knowledge with those new to the legal industry as well as legal veterans wishing to sharpen their skills.

  • How can I get support?

  • How long will I have access to this course?

    Once the course is purchased, you will have access to it for 30 days.

  • Is this course accredited in other states too or just North Carolina?

    At the moment, most of our courses are CLE/CPE accredited in NC only. However, our goal is to offer accredited courses in all 50 states and have already begun the process of expanding our programs into other states. Each course will have the details of its accreditation on its respective webpage.

  • How do I report my CLE/CPE credits?

    After you complete one of our CPE or CLE accredited courses, you will receive a certificate with the pertinent course information you will need to submit for your paralegal certificate renewal. If you included your state ID# in your profile, this will be printed on your certificate. If not, you will need to manually write this in prior to submitting for renewal. CLE courses are automatically approved as CPE credits and should be handled in the same manner. For attorneys seeking NC CLE credits from approved courses, we will send your information to the state board for you on a bi-monthly basis. If you receive communication from the NC state board seeking payment for credits from one of our CLE-accredited courses, bring it to our attention at [email protected] and we will promptly resolve the issue for you.
